  • I used to visit Charlottesville as a child at Easter each year and visited First Baptist Church downtown when Dr. Sandy Ellis was Pastor.

Later when I met my wife, Audrey, we started our family here. We joined FBC with three young children. We both became active, our children were involved in Sunday school, children activities and Vacation Bible School. After my wife became a Christian during Master Life, we worked with young children, and then later in the Youth Group, and taught Sunday school in the Youth Department during the 80's until we left in 2005. I became a Deacon for the first time and ended up serving three terms as a Deacon. In-between Deacon years I served on the Personnel Committee and on the Church Council.

We were all very involved in the church, and I also served on the Pastor Search Committee that brought Dr. Joel Jenkins here as Pastor.

In 2004 our daughter and son-in-law moved to Charlottesville to start a new church. For the first year we helped them and also attended First Baptist. We then left First Baptist to help them start this new church plant here in Charlottesville. They needed our help physically and financially to begin this new ministry and church. We were very involved in this church serving and teaching in Sunday school, with our three grandchildren.

Three years ago our son-in-law left the ministry and we decided to return to First Baptist church, and were welcomed back by both old and new friends. So Iam looking forward to serving as a Deacon once again at First Baptist. We have been back now for three years, and in the meantime I have been serving with Gideons International.
